18kt yellow gold late 19th century snake shaped ring, the eyes are set with round cut green emerald and the head is set with a ruby surrounded by rose cut diamonds.

The ring is made in France. In the 19th century snake jewellery was popular. This is thanks to Queen Victoria her snake shaped engagement ring. After Prince Albert’s untimely death, she continued to wear the ring regularly, making snake jewellery, like this ring, hugely popular.
