Pendants without gemstones

Pendants without gemstones by Lyppens

At Lyppens, you will find gold pendants without gemstones where the focus is entirely on the design, the gold and the quality of the finish. From subtle, minimalist pieces to more distinctive designs, the absence of diamonds or coloured gemstones allows the shape of the pendant to take centre stage. Our pendants are available in 14 or 18-carat yellow, white and rose gold and can be worn with a variety of necklaces. Existing designs can also be adapted, or we can create a bespoke pendant especially for you.

The beauty of a simple design

A pendant does not need a gemstone to have character. Without a stone as the focal point, the shape, proportions and finish of the gold become all the more important. A seemingly simple design can therefore have a strong and distinctive presence.

Styles range from small, refined pendants to larger designs that make more of a statement. The surface and finish can also transform the character of a piece. Clean lines and a smooth finish can create an understated look, while softer, organic shapes or more pronounced details give the pendant an entirely different feel.

Their timeless character also makes gold pendants without gemstones easy to wear and combine. They work beautifully on their own with a necklace, but can also be paired with other gold jewellery.

Yellow, white and rose gold

With no gemstones to draw the eye, the gold itself becomes an important part of the design. Its colour, shape and finish all influence the overall appearance of the pendant. At Lyppens, pendants can be made in 14 or 18-carat yellow, white or rose gold.

The choice of gold can give the same design a very different character. A clean, geometric pendant in white gold, for example, can look quite different when created in the warmer tones of yellow or rose gold. With organic or more traditional shapes, the colour of the gold can also change how the curves, lines and details of the design are perceived.

The finish is just as important. A smooth, highly polished surface creates a different effect from a softer, more understated finish. Without gemstones, these details become more noticeable and allow the qualities of the gold itself to define the character of the pendant.

Choosing a necklace for your pendant

A pendant and necklace should work together as a whole. The colour of the gold is one consideration, but the length, thickness and style of the necklace can be just as important. A delicate pendant, for example, will look and feel very different on a fine chain than it would on a heavier one.

Choosing the same shade of gold for both the pendant and necklace creates a balanced, cohesive look. Different shades of gold can also work well together, particularly when combining several pieces of jewellery. The right choice ultimately depends on the shape and proportions of the pendant and the look you want to achieve.

Creating a personal gold pendant

Without a gemstone to determine the design, there is plenty of freedom to give a gold pendant a more personal character. Its shape, size and finish can all be adapted, or an entirely new piece can be designed from scratch.

You do not need to arrive with a finished design. An idea, photograph or your own sketch can provide the starting point. From there, we can explore how to translate your idea into a gold pendant that works both aesthetically and practically. This means a bespoke piece can begin with something as simple as an initial idea. Together, we can then develop it into a design that can be comfortably worn and beautifully crafted.

Bespoke pendants and 3D design

A completely new pendant can be designed and made in the Lyppens workshop. As well as the appearance of the piece, we consider practical details such as its size, how it will sit when worn, your preferred shade of gold and how the pendant will hang from the necklace.

Depending on the design, we can create a 3D visualisation before the pendant is made. This gives you a realistic impression of its shape and proportions and allows details to be refined before our goldsmiths begin their work.

Once the design has been approved, our goldsmiths will create the pendant in the Lyppens workshop, carefully bringing together the design, gold and finish to create the final piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We can create a completely bespoke pendant without gemstones, with the shape, dimensions, shade of gold and finish tailored to your preferences. You do not need to have a finished design in mind. An idea, photograph or sketch can be enough to begin exploring the possibilities. If appropriate, we can then develop the design in 3D so that you can see how the pendant will look before it is made.
Yes. A sketch, photograph or other reference can be used as inspiration for a new pendant. We will look at the elements you like and consider how they can be translated into a design that works technically and aesthetically in gold. The example does not have to be copied exactly. Instead, it can provide inspiration for an original design, with the shape, size and finish adapted to your preferences.
Both 14 and 18-carat gold are suitable for pendants without gemstones. One of the main differences is the proportion of pure gold: 14-carat gold contains 58.5% pure gold, while 18-carat gold contains 75%. There can also be differences in colour and appearance. The right choice will depend on the design, your personal preference and any other gold jewellery you would like to wear with the pendant.
This depends on the shape, size and weight of the pendant. The thickness, length and style of the necklace will also affect how the pendant sits and looks when worn. A delicate pendant often works well with a finer chain, while a larger or heavier piece may require a more substantial necklace. The size of the pendant bail also needs to be suitable for the chain you choose.
In some cases, yes. What can be changed depends on the design and construction of the pendant. It may be possible to alter its shape, finish or certain details, but the piece will first need to be assessed. This allows us to determine which alterations can be made without compromising the quality or wearability of the pendant.
The time required depends on the design and how complex it is to make. A relatively simple pendant can often be completed within a few weeks, while a more detailed piece or a design that requires several development stages may take longer. Once the design and specifications have been agreed, we can give you a clearer indication of the expected lead time.
