Gemstone pendants

Pendants with gemstones by Lyppens

At Lyppens, you will find a wide selection of gemstone pendants that bring together colour and craftsmanship. From timeless designs featuring sapphire, ruby or emerald to distinctive pieces set with tourmaline, topaz or amethyst, each gemstone gives a pendant its own character. Choose a design that puts a single gemstone in the spotlight or combine coloured stones with diamonds or other gemstones. Our pendants are available in 14 or 18-carat yellow, white and rose gold. Bespoke options are also available, whether you would like to adapt an existing design or create an entirely new pendant.

Different styles of gemstone pendants

Gemstone pendants come in many different styles, from refined pieces for everyday wear to more distinctive designs for special occasions. The choice of gemstone, cut, setting and precious metal all contribute to the overall look. Even the same type of gemstone can take on a completely different character depending on how it is set and styled.

A solitaire pendant is a timeless choice that places a single gemstone at the centre of the design. With no surrounding diamonds or other stones, the focus remains entirely on the gemstone itself, allowing its colour, cut and individual character to stand out.

For a more elaborate look, a halo pendant surrounds the centre stone with smaller gemstones, often brilliant-cut diamonds. The additional sparkle can beautifully enhance the colour of the central gemstone and gives the pendant a more striking appearance.

Both solitaire and halo pendants can be tailored to your preferences, from the gemstone and setting to the design and shade of gold.

Sapphire, ruby and emerald

Sapphire, ruby and emerald are among the most popular gemstones for pendants. Each has its own distinctive appeal: sapphire is best known for its deep blue colour, ruby for its vivid red and emerald for its characteristic green. Within each gemstone variety, however, the colour can vary considerably in tone and intensity, giving every stone its own individual appearance.

Colour is only one aspect to consider when choosing a gemstone. Clarity, size and cut also influence how the stone will look once set into a pendant. Different cuts and variations in colour can give the same type of gemstone a refined, classic or more distinctive character.

At Lyppens, you can view and compare a selection of sapphires, rubies and emeralds in person. Our experienced team can explain the individual characteristics of the stones and help you choose one that suits the pendant you have in mind.

A wide choice of coloured gemstones

Alongside sapphire, ruby and emerald, Lyppens offers a wide range of other coloured gemstones, including tourmaline, topaz, amethyst and citrine. Even within a single gemstone variety, there can be many different colours and shades to explore, creating plenty of possibilities for a more personal design.

The gemstone itself can provide the starting point for the pendant. Its shape, colour and dimensions can guide the choice of setting, gold and overall design, allowing the finished piece to be created around the individual qualities of the stone.

Combining gemstones with diamonds

Coloured gemstones pair beautifully with diamonds. One of the classic ways to combine them is in a halo pendant, where a central sapphire, ruby, emerald or other coloured gemstone is surrounded by smaller diamonds. The brilliance of the diamonds creates a beautiful contrast with the colour of the centre stone and gives the pendant a more distinctive look.

Diamonds can also be incorporated more subtly, for example as small accents above or beside the central gemstone. This opens up a wide range of possibilities, from refined and timeless pieces to more eye-catching designs.

Yellow, white and rose gold

The colour of the gold can have a noticeable effect on the appearance of a gemstone. At Lyppens, gemstone pendants can be made in 14 or 18-carat yellow, white or rose gold, allowing the precious metal to be chosen to complement both the stone and the design.

Yellow gold has a warm, classic appearance and pairs beautifully with many coloured gemstones. White gold provides a more neutral backdrop, often allowing the colour of the gemstone to stand out more clearly. Rose gold adds a warm, soft pink tone and can give the pendant a subtle, contemporary character.

There is no single shade of gold that works best with every gemstone. The right choice depends on the colour and character of the stone, the design of the pendant and, of course, your personal preference. Considering these elements together helps create a balanced design in which the gold and gemstone complement one another.

Choosing a gemstone for your pendant

At Lyppens, you can choose the gemstone first and use it as the starting point for your pendant. This means its colour, cut and size can be considered from the very beginning of the design process.

Once you have selected a stone, we can explore the setting, shade of gold and overall design that will suit it best. The individual properties of the gemstone are important here, as different stones may require different settings or construction methods.

If you already own a gemstone that you would like to use, it may also be possible to incorporate it into a new pendant. We will first assess the stone, including its shape, dimensions and other characteristics, before discussing the options with you.

Personal guidance and bespoke design

Whether you would like to adapt an existing piece or create something completely new, the Lyppens workshop offers a wide range of bespoke possibilities. The gemstone, setting, shade of gold and overall design can all be carefully considered to create a pendant that works beautifully as a whole.

For a completely new piece, we can create a 3D visualisation before the pendant is made. This gives you a realistic impression of the design and allows you to review the proportions and finer details before the work begins.

Once you are happy with the design, our goldsmiths and stone setters will create the pendant in the Lyppens workshop. Our experienced team will guide you through the process, from choosing the gemstone and developing the design to the finished piece.

Frequently asked questions

At Lyppens, you can choose from a variety of colored gemstones. Sapphire, ruby, and emerald are among the classic choices, but gemstones such as tourmaline, topaz, amethyst, and citrine are also available. The selection may vary, so unique stones are often available. The gemstones differ not only in color but also in aspects such as hue, clarity, size, and cut. These characteristics play a significant role in determining the pendant’s appearance and can be taken into account when selecting a suitable design.
In a solitaire pendant, a single gemstone takes center stage in the design. The stone is not surrounded by other gemstones or diamonds, so the focus is entirely on the color, cut, and luster of the chosen stone. In an entourage pendant, the central gemstone is surrounded by smaller stones, usually brilliant-cut diamonds. This setting adds extra sparkle and accentuates the color of the center stone. Both styles can be customized to suit the chosen gemstone and desired look.
Yes. A gemstone pendant can be designed and crafted entirely to your specifications. The chosen gemstone often serves as the starting point, after which the setting, gold color, and other design elements are determined. For a completely new design, a 3D rendering can be created in advance. This gives you a realistic view of the pendant and allows details to be adjusted before the goldsmiths and gem setters begin production.
This depends on the color of the gemstone, the design, and your personal preference. Yellow gold has a warm and classic look and pairs beautifully with many colored gemstones. White gold has a more neutral color, allowing the gemstone to stand out clearly. Rose gold, on the other hand, adds a warm, soft pink hue. There is no single combination that works best for every gemstone. The gold color can therefore be chosen to complement both the stone’s characteristics and the desired look of the pendant.
The lead time for a custom-made pendant depends on the design, the chosen gemstone, and the complexity of the craftsmanship. A relatively simple design can often be crafted within a few weeks, while an elaborate or completely new design may require more time. During the design process, it becomes clear what steps are required for the crafting and what the expected lead time for the pendant is.
