Tahiti pearls are formed in the lagoons around Tahiti, where the black-lipped oyster builds them up layer by layer with nacre, giving them their distinctive dark colours. South Sea pearls, on the other hand, grow in the warm coastal waters of Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, inside the large white-lipped oyster. Their long growth period creates exceptionally large pearls with a soft, satiny lustre.
